Illinois Winter Wheat Harvest Nearly Completed

Much needed rain was reported across the state. There were 5.6 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending Sunday. Statewide, the average temperature was 77.9 degrees, 1.6 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 1.00 inch, 0.16 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 7 percent very short, 15 percent short, 75 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 6 percent very short, 18 percent short, 72 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus.

Corn silking reached 93 percent, compared to 57 percent for the 5-year average. Corn dough reached 7 percent. Corn condition was rated at 2 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 14 percent fair, 51 percent good, and 29 percent excellent.

Soybeans blooming reached 79 percent, compared with 52 percent last year. Soybeans setting pods was at 44 percent, compared to 15 percent last year. Soybean condition was rated at 3 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 20 percent fair, 48 percent good, and 25 percent excellent.

Sorghum headed reached 38 percent, compare to the 5-year average of 15 percent. Sorghum condition was rated at 8 percent poor, 31 percent fair, 55 percent good, and 6 percent excellent.

Winter wheat harvest was 97 percent complete, compared to the 5-year average of 93 percent.
