Illinois Soybean Planting Nears Completion

There were 6.3 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending Sunday. Statewide, the average temperature was 77.4 degrees, 0.9 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.15 inches, 0.65 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent very short, 18 percent short, 72 percent adequate, and 9 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 12 percent short, 77 percent adequate, and 11 percent surplus.

Corn silking was at 19 percent, compared to 91 percent last year and 67 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition was 4 percent very poor, 14 percent poor, 40 percent fair, 38 percent good, and 4 percent excellent.

Soybeans planted was at 96 percent, compared to 100 percent last year and the 5-year average of 99 percent. Soybeans emerged was at 91 percent. Soybean blooming was at 12 percent, compared to 77 percent last year and 54 percent for the 5-year average. Soybean condition was 6 percent very poor, 16 percent poor, 37 percent fair, 37 percent good, and 4 percent excellent.

Winter wheat harvested was 90 percent, compared to 96 percent last year and 93 percent for the 5-year average.
