Illinois Corn Planting Pace Ahead of Average

There were 4.4 days suitable for field work during the week ending Sunday. Statewide, the average temperature was 62.8 degrees, 6.1 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 1.03 inches, 0.09 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 2 percent very short, 17 percent short, 69 percent adequate, and 12 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 1 percent very short, 15 percent short, 77 percent adequate, and 7 percent surplus.

Corn planted reached 54 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 49 percent. Corn emerged reached 14 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 13 percent.

Soybeans planted reached 41 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 14 percent. Soybeans emerged reached 7 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 1 percent.

Winter wheat headed was 21 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 28 percent. Winter wheat condition was rated 3 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 26 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 12 percent excellent.
