MACA Announces Young Leader Scholarship Recipients

The Mid America CropLife Association (MACA) Board of Directors selected 13 college students to receive the MACA Young Leader Scholarship to be used for their college expenses.

This is the seventh year for the program, which is designed to expose future agriculturalists to the crop protection industry and future career opportunities. Recipients will benefit from the financial compensation, exposure and networking with MACA members. MACA members benefit by developing a talent pool of future industry leaders and through the heightened awareness of MACA within the participating universities.

The candidates' educational focus is agriculture and all are enrolled at one of the Land-Grant Universities in the MACA region. They have secured a summer internship (2019) within agriculture, preferably within the crop protection industry. Additionally, the selected recipient will attend the MACA Annual Meeting September 3-5, 2019 in Indianapolis, Indiana to speak about their internship experience and participate in the meeting with MACA members.

The recipients by state/university include:

Colorado -- Rachel Chayer, Colorado State University, is majoring in Chemical and Biological Engineering. She will be interning at the Molecular Weed Lab at Colorado State. Chayer plans to graduate in May 2022.

Illinois -- Madelyn Heinecke, Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, is majoring in Crop, Soil and Environmental Management and her internship will be with BASF Midwest Research Farm. She expects to graduate in May 2020.

Indiana -- Sara Lechlider, Purdue University, majoring in Ag Business and Turf Science. Her internship will be with Helena. She plans to graduate in May 2021.

Iowa -- Erin Chalupa, Iowa State University, majoring in Agricultural Communications. This summer she will intern with Valent USA. Her planned graduation date is May 2021.

Kansas -- Nathaniel Dick, Kansas State University, majoring in Agronomy Consulting and Production. Crop Quest Agronomic Services will be Nathaniel's internship. He plans to graduate in May 2020.

Michigan -- Devin Koroleski, Michigan State University, majoring in Agribusiness Management will spend his summer at the Cooperative Elevator Company based in Pigeon. He expects to graduate in May 2020.

Minnesota -- Sierra Williamson, University of Minnesota, majoring in Agricultural and Food Business Management will be interning at Land O'Lakes headquarters. She plans to graduate in May 2020.

Missouri -- John Clayton Robinson, University of Missouri-Columbia, majoring in Agribusiness Management will be with Bayer CropScience. He plans to graduate in May 2020.

Nebraska -- Rachel Knox, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, majoring in Agronomy. She'll spend her summer at the BASF crop protection research farm in Beaver Crossing, Neb. December 2020 is Knox' expected graduation date.

North Dakota -- Adam Kroll, North Dakota State University, majoring in Agricultural Economics will be working as a commodity trading intern for Cargill at Lafayette, Indi. Kroll will graduate in December 2019.

Ohio -- Mary Buehler, The Ohio State University, majoring in Agribusiness and Applied Economics. She'll be using her classes when she interns at Farm Credit Mid-America in Mt. Orab, Ohio. Buehler's anticipated graduation is May 2020.

South Dakota -- Ally Ringeisen, South Dakota State University, is majoring in Agronomy and Precision Agriculture. For her summer internship she'll be at NuWay-K&H Cooperative located in Trimont, Minn. She'll graduate in May 2021.

Wisconsin -- Samuel Jesse, University of Wisconsin-Madison, majoring in Agronomy. Peak Forage Solutions will be the place for Samuel's internship. He is looking forward to graduating in May 2020.

After completing their summer internships, the scholarship recipients will receive a $2,000 scholarship to assist with their tuition expenses.
