On March 8th, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) held a ceremony to dedicate the "Dr. Doug Parrett Memorial Arena" within the historic Stock Pavilion.

This event honored the exceptional 49-year career of Dr. Doug Parrett, a legendary figure in beef production and livestock judging.

Over 300 people attended the ceremony, a testament to Dr. Parrett's lasting impact. Professor Rodney Johnson, head of the Department of Animal Sciences, delivered opening remarks, highlighting Dr. Parrett's enduring legacy in the industry and those he inspired.

Following these remarks, Dr. Parrett's family, including his wife, children, and grandchildren, unveiled a commemorative banner and bronze plaques officially naming the arena after him. John Parrett, Dr. Parrett's son, shared heartfelt words about his father's passion and deep connection to the university.

Long-time colleagues and friends also paid tribute, including professors Daniel Shike and Tom Carr, and the Honorable Gene Schwarm, a former student and judging team member. The ceremony concluded with a toast to Dr. Parrett with Mountain Dew, his favorite beverage.

The dedication ceremony not only celebrated Dr. Parrett's remarkable career but also served as a fundraiser for the Dr. Doug Parrett Memorial Scholarship Fund. This scholarship will continue to support future generations of ACES livestock judging team members.
